Where? East Beach at Cabrillo and Milpas
Who can come to Beach Camp?
All kids going into grades 1st-6th! AND if you have a 7th-12th grade student, we have a fun and meaningful LIT experience. Email delaney@oceanhills.org if interested!
Who are the counselors?
We have a team of awesome Oceanhills community members who all have been trained, background checked and vetted by our Family Ministry Pastor.
How do you keep kids safe in the water?
We have a multilayered approach to keeping kids safe in the water.
- We make sure we know our kids! On your registration form, we ask you your child’s water safety level so we can make sure everyone stays safe.
- We only have a part of the group in the water at one time.
- Within the water group, half the group stays in the shallow water. They will know this as “shin swim.” The other half of the group is allowed “big swim” where they can go to their chest.
- Every student is paired with an LIT in the water who makes sure they are following the rules and staying safe.
- We have “eyes on the water.” During each water rotation, we have 3-5 adults standing on the sand watching our kids, looking for potential dangers, and keeping tabs on the conditions.
How do you safely take kids to the bathroom?
We have a “2 deep policy” that ensures that one or more children will always be accompanied by 2 background checked volunteers. We use the Cabrillo Pavilion bathrooms, making sure they are safe and suitable before children enter.
What do you do each day?
Each day consists of group games, songs and worship, storytelling time, snack, ocean play, small group games, and a CMJ moment where we talk about how we can serve our community as a reflection of God’s heart for all people.
What if my kid does not like the water?
No worries, we have lots of sand toys, game stuff and beach toys to keep them busy.
Can I drop my children off early?
Sorry, no. Because East Beach is a public beach and anyone can be wandering around, we ask parents to wait till 8:45 when they can check in thier children and leave. This is because we are busy preparing for the day and are unable to reliably watch your child. However, feel free to coordinate with a fellow camper family for options.
Can my child be in the same group as their friend of a different grade?
Generally, yes, we want friends to be together for a great experience. And depending on the dynamics, age difference or availability in each group, we will determine what grouping will be best.
Can I register for part of camp?
We do not offer different pricing for different amounts of days, however, you are free to register your child knowing they will miss some days.
Can I stay at camp?
Of course. We love having parents join us. We always appreciate having parents sign up to be “eyes on the water”
Do you reapply sunscreen?
Yes! We have many transitions that allow for reapplying sunscreen.
How should my child show up to camp?
- In a bathing suit
- First layer of sunscreen on.
- Having gone to the bathroom before you left the house
What should I send my child with?
- A towel
- Sunscreen if you have a preference
- Hat
- Socks for if the sand gets hot
- A refillable water bottle
- A hearty snack
